Reserve Patrol Deputy
Sutter County Sheriff Reserve Patrol Deputies hail from all walks of life and enjoy successful full time careers. Still, Reserve Deputies take pride assisting the office in all aspects of law enforcement duties throughout the community. Association membership is available at $30.00 per quarter and includes CRPOA membership with accompanying coverage. One membership meeting per month and one training class per month are mandatory.
A Reserve Deputy's primary duty is to assist the regular beat deputies in the various aspects of law enforcement. Some of those duties are answering in progress calls, calls for service, report writing, traffic enforcement handling, domestic violence, coroner’s cases, DUI checkpoints, surveillance and all law enforcement responsibilities. After completing Field Training, Level I Reserve Deputies operate as solo units assisting the Patrol Division.
Reserve Patrol Deputies receive the same training and maintain the same updates as the regular deputies. Training is required by the state and our office. We are certified in First Aid/CPR, weaponless defense, criminal law/legal updates. All deputies are certified with handguns, tasers and most recently the AR-15. We receive narcotics training and some of us are Drug Recognition certified. This training is mandatory to keep Reserve status in ANY agency in California. Sutter County takes no exception in compliance.
Involved with the community, the Reserves sponsor community events such as our Annual Easter Egg Hunt and the annual Crab Feed. Reserve deputies also participate along with regular deputies at the Peach Festival, National Night Out, the Sikh parade and 4th of July. Any funds generated by the association are used for training or returned to the community via charitable organizations for families in need.
Through a state grant, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office is authorized to use Reserve Deputies for Boat Patrol. These positions assist the Boat Deputies on various waterways throughout Sutter County. Boat Patrol Reserves maintain the same training and meeting requirements. They also assist in other duties as assigned.
